Use this postcode in the SAT-NAV; E17 7DU

The problem is that if you use the address given for "St Michael and All Angels" you end up in the wrong street where there is no parking. If you want to use a bus then that postcode could work better; E17 6PG.

This is where we do the food preparation for the Christian Kitchen service:

What are the objectives of the Christian Kitchen Ministry.

"Ministry" is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning "to serve". Every Sunday of the Month it is our ministries turn to assist with the preparation, handing out, serving and cleaning up of the food service for the homeless and marginalised people of Walthamstow.

This is a call to all interested parties who wish to participate in this ministry. We have wonderful, amazing people from a conglomerate of churches who gather to fulfil this calling in our team. So be called by our Lord Jesus to serve in some small way.

In Matthew 25 Jesus said:

The pertinent text is Mat 25:32 - 45.

Quoted below for your convenience ~  Mat 25: 35 - 40
'For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.'  "Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?  'And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?

'When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
"The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.' (NASB)

and in 1 John 3:18 ..John writes "Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth."
Quotes from the (NASB)

Christian Kitchen (CK) has served a cooked meal from the Mission Grove car park in Walthamstow Forest for over 20 years. Its beauty is its simplicity – a meal is cooked at an off-site location transported to the car park and served to whoever needs a hot meal. The van goes out with the team of three or four volunteers every night of the year, serving starts from 7:30 PM until 8:30 PM. Approximately 40 to 50 people will be fed each night.

As previously mentioned, it is this team's responsibility to prepare the food every fourth Sunday and then get it all loaded into the van, take it to the required location and serve the food to those that are waiting.

Short Description of Volunteers Roles.

Below is a short description of the Roles that are available in the Christian Kitchen Team.

Prayer Support Team.

Volunteers for the prayer team make themselves available to pray for the services and the team that are engaged in the preparation and serving of the food.

A prayer team leader will be elected to co-ordinate the prayer and contact will be maintained throughout the period which encompasses the physical serving ministry of the team on the front line. The team on the ground will contact the team leader who will distribute and contact prayer requests to the supporting prayer participants.

The prayer team can decide to meet at a common location or simply make themselves available for supporting prayer during the required time. Prayer is currently done mostly by electronic means. We distribute the prayers, to the participating persons, through creating a group on "WhatsApp" or using text messages. This makes it possible for anybody to form part of the prayer team. As a part of the prayer team, you can either read the requests for prayers and participate by praying over them or create your own prayer and add it to the list.

General prayer requests will be sent out to all as and when required.

This is a really easy and simple place to take baby steps in service and ministry. (But it is also critically important and necessary.)

Cooks

Cooks prepare the food. Normally they will decide what is to be prepared to co-ordinate the food required.

By sharing the cooking amongst a number of volunteer cooks it obviates the daunting task of having the whole meal prepared by only one or two people. Potential volunteers do not always have the facilities to prepare such a large number fo portions.

The cooking is often shared out amongst a number of people. This means that each person cooks a small portion of the total amount required, within their capacity. The portions cooked are then collected or dropped at a common point and the food is combined into one meal to complete what is required for the evening serving.

Cooks do not have to serve at the point of distribution or do anything more than just helping with the cooking of a small supporting portion. Each to his own.

Helpers - Disher uppers.

The dish up volunteers do exactly that but they also need to help in the Kitchen at Branches in getting the van loaded and ready.

After the dishing up and serving they also help clean up and put away the cutlery and pots used.

Help Outside.

It does help to have an outside the van helper. In the past, this has been a luxury due to the lack of volunteers. The outside helper will help in the preparation at Branches before the van goes out. Help setup the site. Then help cleanup at the site and in the kitchen afterwards.

The Van drivers.

The van drivers help load and prepare the van before it goes out. Drive the van from Branches to the site. Set-up the site. Clean up the site and then Drive the van back and help clean up afterwards.

Site Team Leader.

The site team leader takes charge of making sure that his team is aware that they are on duty for the coming Sunday. He is also normally the communication coordinator between the prayer team and the site and cooking team. The site team leader will need to manage the whole process and make sure the resources required are available.
